Healthcare. . . Ours to Protect I recently listened to Roy Romonow, Chair of The Romonaow Commission on Healthcare in Canada. His address was eye opening for me He talked about the debate that will soon be coming and our responsibility to be involved as Medicare defines us as a nation and we should not allow it to be demolished. As Canadians we believe that care should be based on NEED not the ABILITY TO PAY. Ken Georgetti said the the US system spends approximately $5,000.00 per capita for a system that covers most people. Where Canada spends $3,500 for a system that covers all. Are there ways of making the system better Yes, but should we listen to the right wing who wants to make our healthcare an American style pay as you go. Having recently been in the system as a client I found the hallways unpleasant, but that is something we should fix. Lets not scrap a system that we can fix so some people can make a profit of the backs of the sick and injured. Do those who work in the healthcare field have the answers? Probably. All someone has to do is ask, listen and implement some of those ideas. Contact your local MP, MLA or Councillor/Reeve and see what they think. Make them accountable and remember:
Get Involved, Get Active, Have a real say in what your political leaders say and do. As well as how they represent us as a nation. Do a little, Do a lot, Do something.
